What does it take to become a volunteer and feel the reward of serving the people and the community where you live?
Training
All firefighters are required to participate in local fire training. Should a member seek a leadership role, additional hours of training are required. Many of our volunteers undertake training for certifications which are not required, but which benefit them and the community, such as Emergency Medical Technician, Fire Fighter I & II, Fire Instructor and Fire Officer, and Hazardous Materials response. The training is demanding but very rewarding. There are also non-fire related positions available such as admin, fundraising, kitchen, etc.
Commitment
Upon completion of an orientation program, volunteers can begin to answer calls. Members are issued a pager to alert them to calls for help, respond to the fire station to man equipment, and respond to calls. There are responsibilities beyond answering the call for help. Volunteers are involved with monthly meetings, fire prevention education, fund-raising activities, membership recruitment and community projects.
